Our caterer - Smoque! →
here’s a secret you may not have known: i like food. a lot. and so does andy. we eat food. all the time! so, when it came time to pick a caterer for our silly wedding, it was some serious business. my first instinct was to hire smoque. we’ve been many times, love it and i love the idea of bbq at a wedding.  unfortunately, i went with my second instinct, which was to call caterers,...

updates
frustratingly, we were at a bit of a stand still the last few weeks.  while there is so much (SOOO MUCH) to do, it was all upon the venue to approve vendors and answer questions, and with the holidays making it more and more difficult to contact people, we had a span of time of absolutely no wedding plans being made. i assure you friends, work is now being done. we have a very good plan for the...

Photographer!
One of the most important decisions (besides the venue and caterer) for this whole shindig was the photographer.  Being a self-admitted photo snob, I was really conflicted about this decision. We don’t have an enormous budget for photography, but I wanted someone great who seems to have the same aesthetics as us, but those photographers tend to be on the very, very pricey side. Through some...

Guide to collecting addresses with Google Docs →
Currently, we are hustling on getting our Save the Date’s out and I came upon this really easy tutorial on how to do such using Google Documents. Since I am a nerd for all things Google and organization, this is my favourite thing. Ever. (Or at least for the day.)

apologies for the crazy delay in posts, folks. we are still getting married, no worries.  i [gena] sort of (read: majorly) slacked on the whole planning thing, so we are currently working on many aspects at once and should have some news and posts in the coming days.  yay!

venue search '09 concludes
we handed over our deposit and signed the contract.  venue has been decided and is ours. that’s a huge weight off our shoulders, and (i feel) the biggest decision we had to make. the ceremony and reception will be held there. it’s as close to perfect as we could find and will make the rest of this fiasco a lot easier. as long as people don’t object to traveling to the suburbs,...

venue search '09!
tonight we have plans to look at our first venue for the big day.  in terms of looks, this place is #1 on the list. it’s gorgeous and if they allow us to use certain parts of it (outdoors parts) it’s exactly what i wanted. the big plus is that if we choose it, itll house both reception and ceremony, and it’s fairly inexpensive.   but i fear they do have a few restrictions on...

secret wedding →
from what i have discerned from the thousands and thousands of wedding blogs, magazines, message boards and websites i regularly read is that when planning a wedding, you are to collect photos and make yourself an inspiration board. well, i am so very web 2.0 and have an inspiration tumblr.  if you are savvy, you will notice that it has posts from before we were even engaged.  that’s right....

i am not a very relaxed person regarding most things. i wouldn’t say i am high-strung, but i am easy to stress.  so i was wondering to myself when i would get my first bout of INSANE ANXIETY FREAKOUT ‘09.  hey guess what it’s right now. the wedding industry is just… well it’s just no good.  it is not a place i want to get wrapped up in.  andy and i aren’t high...

having a career rooted in production has some advantages.  the anal-retentive planning and “measure twice, cut once” mentality comes natural to me.  due to this, from the moment we were engaged, i started researching and planning the wedding (okay, maybe even a few months before…), the vendors, the venues, etc. not only do i want this to be a great day for both andy and i, but i...

prologue.
andy had been thinking about it for a long time — as in, the idea first popped into his head during the month they started dating. not that he was going to rush such a decision, but he’d been fully invested from the start and knew he was madly in love with this amazing woman. as the hours, days, weeks, and months accumulated, he couldn’t bear the thought of not spending the rest...

the start.
on may 25, 2009 at approximately 9pm, andy asked gena to marry him.  she agreed, and cried.  and so it begins.
